Wynwyn pays tribute to Alma Moreno’s horror role in national costume

ACTRESS and beauty queen Wynwyn Marquez paid tribute to Filipino folklore and her showbiz roots during the national costume presentation of Miss Universe Philippines 2025.

Representing Muntinlupa, Wynwyn appeared on stage in an elaborate look inspired by the 1992 Regal Films classic Aswang, which starred her mother, Alma Moreno.

Designed in collaboration with Obra Grandiosa by Bryan Diego, the costume starts off as a Filipiniana ensemble, before transforming into a sinister, shape-shifting figure that evokes the mythical creature from Philippine horror tales.

“This costume is inspired by Aswang… It was designed to reflect the creature as a terrifying shape-shifter—graceful and elegant at first glance, but deceptive and fearsome underneath,” she wrote on social media.

The ensemble uses rhinestones, acrylic beads, teardrops, embroidery lace, 3D patterns, and earth-toned spray paint to bring the vision to life—a nod to both Filipino mythology and cinema heritage.
