TV PERSONALITY and comedienne Sugar Mercado was crowned Mrs. Universe Official 2025 in the international pageant held in San Pedro, Laguna.
In a Facebook post, Sugar shared her disbelief and happiness over her win. “Mga misis, umaga na pero di ko pa tinatanggal ang korona ko sa ulo ko as Mrs. Universe Official 2025 Winner,” she said. “Hangga’t hindi pa nag-si-sync in sa sarili ko na totoo pala ito at hindi panaginip, isusuot ko ito buong araw.”
The former Eat Bulaga host admitted she never imagined becoming a beauty queen. “Sanay kasi ako makipag-bardagulan at makipagkulitan sa entablado tulad ni Herlene Hipon Budol,” she said. “Yung squammy ang atake pero pwede pala mangyari ‘to kung may tamang tao na maggagabay at makakakita ng potential sa kakayahan mo.”
Sugar credited talent manager Wilbert Tolentino for helping her discover her potential and for guiding her through the competition. “Yung mga word of wisdom at motivational talk mo sa amin bilang mga komedyante… basta makinig lang sa pointers at samahan ng tiyaga at pasensya, makukuha din natin ang imposible,” she said.
She also thanked her friends and supporters, including Madam Inutz, for encouraging her to keep going despite doubts.
Aside from the crown, Sugar also won Best Talent, Best National Costume, and Best Long Gown during the competition.
“This is your super mom in the universe, where the stars are brighter for a single parent like me,” she wrote. “Maraming salamat sa mga nagmahal at nagtiwala—patunay ito na abot ng isang Sugar Mercado ang kanyang pangarap.”
