‘Pan de Nora’ to be sold at QC’s oldest bakery in honor of Superstar

IN tribute to screen legend Nora Aunor, Kamuning Bakery Café, Quezon City’s oldest bakery, is set to relaunch a special bread named after her: Pan de Nora.

According to Wilson Lee Flores, owner of the 86-year-old bakery, Pan de Nora will be available starting Wednesday, May 21, to mark the actress’ 72nd birthday.

The bread will feature a distinct “mole” on top, symbolizing Nora’s famous beauty mark.

Veteran entertainment columnist Nestor Cuartero said Pan de Nora had been popular in the 1970s, during the height of Aunor’s fame.

“Ang alam ko noong araw, monay siya na may konting dot o parang pasas. Kasikatan ni Nora, nauso na ‘yan,” Cuartero recalled. “Noong peak ni Nora, early ’70s, pinakilala ’yan. Pan de Nora na rin ang pangalan.”

Cuartero added that the bread originated in Iriga City, where Nora was born, and was a source of pride among local bakeries.

“Monay talaga siya na may pasas. Nakakatuwa na ginawan siya ng Kamuning Bakery, in remembrance of Nora Aunor. Maganda ang tribute na ito,” he said.
