ACTRESS Katrina Halili put to the test the claim that P500 is enough to buy ingredients for a Noche Buena meal and discovered it wasn’t.
In a Facebook video, Katrina took on the challenge by picking the cheapest ingredients for a simple macaroni salad. Her grocery basket included onions, cheese, macaroni, and other basic items.
But at the checkout counter, Halili was stunned when the total reached P619. “E ano pala kakasya sa P500?” she asked in disbelief. “Tinry ko lang kung kakasya ’yong P500. Hindi pala.”
The cashier told her that others had tried the same challenge but likewise failed to keep within budget.
Still carrying her grocery bags inside the elevator, Halili said she couldn’t accept defeat and promised to retry the task. “Wala, talo ako sa challenge. I think uulitin ko pa ulit ’to,” she said. “Uulitin ko ’to… kailangan magawa ko ’yung P500 na ’yon.”
Her attempt comes after public criticism of the Department of Trade and Industry’s statement that families could prepare a P500 Noche Buena package this holiday season.
