Solo Parents party-list files election offense vs Pasig candidate over lewd remarks

THE Solo Parents party-list on Friday filed an election offense complaint against Pasig congressional candidate Christian Sia, citing violations of the Fair Elections Act following his controversial remarks targeting single mothers, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) confirmed.

This developed as Comelec’s Task Force SAFE issued a show cause order requiring Sia to respond within three days why no election offense or disqualification case should be filed against him.

Sia drew public backlash after making a crude comment during a campaign sortie, saying that single mothers—particularly those “who are still menstruating”—could sleep with him.

Comelec noted that Sia’s statements may have violated Resolution No. 11116, which outlines its Anti-Discrimination and Fair Campaigning Guidelines. These include provisions against “discrimination against women” and “gender-based harassment.”

The complaint described Sia’s words as “offensive” and “disgraceful,” arguing that they trivialize the challenges of solo parenthood by turning them into a “laughable political punchline.”

“This was not just a lapse in judgment,” the complaint stated. “It constitutes an election offense that disrespects not only solo parents but also the dignity of public office. The respondent must be held accountable for conduct that offends the conscience of a nation that values and honors the sacrifices of women and solo parents.”
