TWO disqualification complaints have been filed against Quezon City congressional candidate Rose Nono Lin over allegations of vote-buying and illegal campaigning in violation of the Omnibus Election Code.
Lin, who is running for the second time to represent the city’s 5th district, is accused of handing out free goods and directly soliciting votes during the campaign period—including on Maundy Thursday, a day traditionally reserved for religious observance.
In one petition, Ligaya Sta. Ana claimed Lin’s team set up a tent near Nova Plaza Mall in Novaliches on April 17, distributing free refreshments while asking people to vote for her.
Sta. Ana said the act turned “a solemn religious holiday meant for prayer and reflection into an opportunity for electioneering.”
Another complainant, Karen Altar, alleged that from March 29 to April 21, Lin’s supporters gave away rice, cash, and campaign materials at various events. Altar herself claimed to have received such handouts.
“The distribution of money and material considerations by Lin or her representatives during the campaign period appears to be systematic and targeted at influencing voters’ decisions,” the complaint read.
Lin previously drew national attention for her links to Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corp., a firm embroiled in controversy over alleged corruption in pandemic supply deals.
She has yet to issue her statement.
