Marcos to Pinoys: Let your voices be heard, choose leaders wisely

ON the eve of one of the country’s most consequential political exercises, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. called on Filipinos to take part in shaping the nation’s future by casting their votes—and doing so peacefully.

In a video message posted on his official social media pages Sunday, the President reminded citizens that voting is not only a right, but a responsibility.

“Mga kababayan, ngayong halalan, gamitin natin ang ating karapatan at gampanan ang ating pananagutan bilang mamamayang Pilipino (Fellow citizens, this election, let us exercise our right and fulfill our responsibility as Filipinos),” he said.

Marcos framed the elections as a crucial moment for people to speak out—not just about policies or platforms—but about the kind of country they envision.

“This is an opportunity for every voice to be heard and for each dream to find a place in the direction our country takes,” he said in Filipino.

With over 68 million voters expected to head to the polls on Monday, the President stressed that democracy is built on diversity—but it should not lead to hostility.

“Our beliefs may differ—that is the essence of democracy. But disagreement should not lead to intimidation or conflict,” he said. “We fight for our future through the ballot, not in the streets, not through violence.”

Marcos urged voters to choose leaders who are honest, compassionate, and truly capable of public service. He also appealed to candidates to respect the will of the people, regardless of the outcome.

“Let us bring this election to a close with dignity and calm,” he added.

More than 18,000 national and local positions are up for grabs, from senators to municipal councilors. As the country prepares for a long day at the polls, the President called for unity and vigilance to ensure the vote remains clean and credible.

“Magtulungan po tayo upang mapanatili ang isang maayos, mapayapa, at makatarungang halalan (Let us work together to uphold an orderly, peaceful, and fair election),” he said.

To give Filipinos every opportunity to cast their vote, Marcos earlier declared May 12, election day, a nationwide non-working holiday.
