Laguna guv Hernandez, wife face DQ raps over alleged vote-buying

DISQUALIFICATION complaints have been filed against Laguna Governor Ramil Hernandez and his wife, 2nd District Rep. Ruth Hernandez, over alleged vote-buying and use of government resources for campaign purposes.

A private citizen, Celito Baron, lodged the petitions before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday, accusing the couple—who are swapping posts in the upcoming elections—of distributing t-shirts bearing their images, food, bottled water, and envelopes containing PHP2,000 during a poll watchers’ orientation and training.

Baron also alleged that the Hernandez couple used government-issued health assistance cards, locally referred to as “blue cards,” to curry favor with voters. The complaint claims these acts constitute a clear violation of the Omnibus Election Code and are aimed at influencing the outcome of the polls.

The couple has yet to issue a statement regarding the petitions.
