Gabriela asks Supreme Court to sanction Pasig bet over misogynistic remarks

WOMEN’s group Gabriela has formally asked the Supreme Court to sanction Pasig congressional candidate, lawyer Christian ‘Ian’ Sia, following his controversial sexual remarks about single mothers.

The group sent a three-page letter to Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo and the justices of the high tribunal on Monday.

The group said Sia violated the Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability (CPRA), particularly provisions that prohibit gender-based harassment and demand dignified conduct from lawyers.

In the letter, Gabriela urged the Supreme Court to take disciplinary action against Sia, emphasizing its authority to regulate the legal profession under Section 5(5), Article VIII of the 1987 Constitution.

“We respectfully request that the Honorable Court look into this matter and impose any disciplinary action it deems appropriate,” the letter stated.

The controversy erupted after Sia, in a campaign speech, made an inappropriate joke about single mothers, specifically referring to “menstruating” ones. He said they could have sex with him.

“Para sa mga solo parent ng Pasig, minsan sa isang taon, ang mga solo parent na babae, na nireregla pa, nay malinaw na nireregla pa, at nalulungkot, minsan sa isang taon, pwedeng sumiping ho sa akin. Yun hong interesado, magpalista na rito sa mesa sa gilid,” Sia said .
