KINUMPIRMA ni dating Speaker at Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez, na siya ring pangulo ng Partido Reporma, na si Vice President Leni Robredo ang bagong bet ng partido para sa darating na halalan.
Ginawa ni Alvarez ang anunsyo matapos pormal na magbitiw si presidential candidate at Senador Panfilo Lacson sa partido dahil sa pagsuporta ng Reporma sa ibang kandidato.
“Our ground leaders have expressed their wish to participate in that brave calling. And that is why, a hard choice must be made. With a heavy heart, many members of Partido Reporma are constrained to consider a candidate other than their first choice,” ayon kay Alvarez sa isang kalatas.
“We reasonably believe that the only realistic option at this point, with roughly a month and a half left [before the elections], is to converge with Leni Robredo’s campaign,” dagdag pa nito.
Ayon pa sa kongresista, bagamat si Lacson ang “most qualified to be president,” ang reyalidad umano ang nagtulak sa kanila na baguhin ang kanilang opsyon.
Matatandaan na si Alvarez ay sinibak sa pagaka-Speaker noong nakaraang Kongreso at hinihinalang pakana nina Davao City Mayor Sara at mga kaalyado nito Kamara gaya ni dating Ilocos Norte Rep. Imee Marcos.
