HINDI solb ang Department of Health sa ipinatutupad na polisiya ngayon ng Department of Education na payagan ang optional na pagsusuot ng face mask ng mga mag-aaral at guro habang nasa loob ng silid paaralan.
“The DOH defers policy decisions to the DepEd with regard to the well-being and safety of its students,” ayon sa DOH nang matanong kung anong posisyon nito sa order na inilabas ng DepEd.
“Should they pursue this, the optional use of face masks in schools is aligned with the Office of the President’s Executive Order No. 3 and 7 which allows the optional use of face masks both indoors and outdoors for certain health settings,” dagdag ng DOH.
Naniniwala ang DOH na kailangan ang “proper assessment kung kailan dapat at hindi dapat magsuot ng mask na siyang magbibigay dagdag proteksyon at pag-iwas ng pagkalat ng virus sa mga siksikan na lugar gaya ng mga pampublikong silid-aralan.
Kailangan anya ang “sanitation, physical distancing, vaccination at good ventilation” bago ikonsidera ang hindi pagsusuot ng face mask sa loob ng classroom.
Samantala, sinabi ni DepEd Spokesman Michael Poa na maglalabas ng amendatory department order ang kagawaran para isapormal ang pagpapalabas ng polisiya.
Anya, hinihintay pa nila ang feedback ng mga regional directors kung may mga challenges ba na dapat tugunan.
“We are still waiting for feedback from our regional directors so that we can address any challenges they might have encountered,” ayon kay Poa.
Naniniwala naman ang Alliance of Concerned Teachers na kailangang magsuot pa rin ng face mask ang mga mag-aaral dahil ito ang kanilang “last line of defense” dahil na rin sa overcrowded at hindi maganda ang bentilasyon sa mga silid-aralan sa pampublikong paaralan.
“It is very irresponsible for the government to leave our schools in such a state, and even more thoughtless to strip our students and teachers of the last protection that we have, however insufficient it is,” ayon sa grupo.
