Divide and rule tactic won’t work on Lacuna-Servo tandem

“Ke nakapikit o nakadilat, kay Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna ako!!”

This was the firm declaration made by Manila Vice Mayoral candidate, Congressman Yul Servo amid efforts from some political quarters to drive a wedge within their local party Asenso Manileno by attempting to pair him with another candidate for mayor.

Servo said he is solidly behind Lacuna as his runningmate and sole candidate for mayor, as much as he is supporting no other candidate for President but Mayor Isko Moreno.

The Congressman’s reaction came after learning that some individuals campaigning for a certain candidate for mayor have been pairing him with the said candidate without his express knowledge and consent.

Servo appealed to them to put a stop to what they are doing because he will just deny it, adding it is clear to Manila residents that he is running for vice mayor with Lacuna as his mayor.

He also urged other local candidates to prove that they are worthy of the trust and confidence of Manilans by presenting what they have done and plan to do for the city, instead of engaging in dirty tactics and smear campaign.

Servo said he and Lacuna are in agreement that they will never engage in negative campaigning or engage with anybody launching such against them.

Instead, Servo said their tandem is utilizing their time and effort in continuing to attend to their functions while also in the thick of their campaign.

Aside from being the second in command as Vice Mayor in Manila, Lacuna is also the Presiding Officer of the 38-member Manila City Council and in charge of the city government’s health cluster and vaccination program.

On the other hand, Servo, who represents the third legislative district of Manila in Congress, is also the deputy majority leader in the House of Representatives.

Servo, whose full name is John Marvin Cruz Nieto, is a Filipino actor and politician who was born February 22, 1977 and is more popularly known by his stage name ‘Yul Servo’ which was chosen for him by famous director Maryo J. de los Reyes.

The second of eight children born in a Manila middle-class family, Servo studied to become a policeman as he in fact took up criminology at the Philippine College of Criminology. However, he was pushed into acting by an uncle.

He was a third district Councilor in Manila from 2007 to 2016 and from 2016 to present, a Congressman from the same district.

Among the most significant bills / laws he sponsored is House Bill No. 5433, titled: “An Act creating the Department of Technical Education and Skills Development, defining its powers and functions, repealing Republic Act No. 7796, otherwise known as theTESDA Act of 1994 and appropriating funds therefor.”

The achievements and awards he received as a member of the film industry include the following: 2008 – Best Actor for Torotot by Brussels International Film Festival; 2008 – Dose (Twelve); 2004 – Best Actor for Naglalayag by Brussels International Film Festival; 2004 – Best Actor for Naglalayag by Manila Film Festival and 2002 – Best Actor for Batang West Side by Brussels International Film Festival.

He was also hailed as Best actor in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 for Batang West Side, Laman, Naglalayag, Torotot and Brutus.

His advocacy programs are focused on youth empowerment and social amelioration for the underprivileged.

Outside of his achievements in his chosen fields of endeavor, what is he best known for? His boyish, refreshing, constant smiling face, that’s what.
