Blessed to be a blessing

If you could think of a word that best describes your life, what would it be?

In my case, I choose “blessed” because when I trace back the milestones of my life, I couldn’t help but to be grateful. And I think everything was a blessing.

A blessing, according to Meriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary is “the act or words of one that blesses or a thing conducive to happiness or welfare. Even in the Bible the word blessed is linked with happiness and welfare.”

I believe nothing happens by chance. One great thing is caused by something.

Many good things happened in my life and they happened because of the belief that there is a great God who causes them. And that I am a recipient of those blessings. How did God bless me?

First, He blessed me with a family of my own. At the age of six, my parents got separated which brought challenges in my life. God answered my desire to have a family by giving me a partner, Jay, who accepts and loves me as I am. I am a pastor’s wife and I have one lovely daughter.

I also am blessed with a vocation and profession I enjoy. I really wanted to learn as a kid but my early environment was not conducive for my academic foundation. But would you believe it, I finished Theology in college and I had been to two known universities for my post studies? I am not a PHD holder. But I am a licensed Guidance counselor by profession and a minister by vocation.

I enjoy my ministry of helping people to get through with their emotional and spiritual issues in life. All these achievements I consider blessings and not more of myself because I know I have nothing to boast on my own.

The third thing that God blessed me with is the extended life I now live.
Before getting married to my classmate and boyfriend for five years, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

It was great that my fiancée didn’t walk out of our wedding plans. In fact, he helped me to recover and by God’s grace I was healed. I even got my one and only daughter Hannah after five years of getting married.

Ten years had passed and the cancer came back due to stress, including the mind-boggling thesis writing. And this time the cancer metastasized in my lungs. But lo and behold! God made a miracle.

The four tumors found in my lungs were ruled out after radiation treatment during a very short span of time. I know you would agree with me that this another lease of life is indeed a blessing.

We can give significant impact and cause others to receive blessings. The blessing of not just being happy but how to have a meaningful life in God.
