TWO women posing as faith healers were arrested in Valenzuela City after scamming a couple into believing that a “white dwarf” could cure the wife’s illness in exchange for cash and jewelry.
According to police, the suspects, a 50-year-old woman and her 34-year-old niece, met the victims at a market in Brgy. Malinta, where they sell herbal medicine and perform spiritual healing.
They convinced the husband that his wife, who had been suffering from sciatica for two years, could recover through a “healing ritual” that required offerings to a mythical “white dwarf” named Datu Karu.
The couple prepared fruits, flowers, black candles, and two white envelopes as instructed. The suspects also demanded P198,100 in cash and gold jewelry worth P113,000, promising that the items would only be used for the ritual.
After the ceremony, the suspects hastily left.
When the victims checked the envelopes, they discovered only fake “budol” money inside.
Authorities later arrested the suspects at a bus terminal, where they recovered the stolen valuables. Both are now detained and face estafa charges before the Valenzuela City Police.
