A TEACHER in Muntinlupa City died after losing consciousness during a scheduled classroom observation on Wednesday, January 7.
According to reports, the teacher was standing in front of her class while two observers watched when she suddenly felt dizzy, fainted, and hit her head on the floor.
She was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead a few hours later.
The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) confirmed the incident on its official Facebook page and expressed condolences to the family of (the teacher) who taught at Pedro E. Diaz High School.
“We honor her dedication and commitment to learners and to public education, as we join her family, friends, colleagues and students in mourning her untimely passing,” the TDC said.
The coalition also called on the Department of Education to review classroom observation policies.
“Classroom observations… must be implemented primarily as a supportive and developmental process aimed at improving pedagogy—not as a punitive or judgmental mechanism to determine a teacher’s worth or capability,” it said.
TDC added that teachers’ health and wellness should be prioritized, urging the government to provide free and accessible medical services.
A classroom observation is a process where a school administrator, supervisor, or fellow teacher watch a teacher teach a class. The goal is to assess teaching performance, provide feedback, and support professional growth.
