THE Quezon City government has temporarily closed 14 lechon establishments in La Loma after several pigs tested positive for African Swine Fever (ASF).
In a statement, the city said its Veterinary Department, together with the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), detected ASF-positive pigs during a routine inspection. Officials recommended the culling of affected animals to prevent further spread of the virus.
The Business Permits and Licensing Department issued temporary closure orders on Wednesday night, Nov. 12, though the LGU did not release the names of the affected lechonan.
Authorities stressed that ASF cases remain isolated in the area, pose no threat to other markets in the city, and cannot be transmitted to humans.
The LGU added that it is assisting affected business owners to meet health and safety protocols so they can resume operations as soon as possible.
