POLICE arrested a 25-year-old man who allegedly robbed a money changer in Quezon City to pay off his debt to his girlfriend.
According to a report from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), the suspect, identified only as “Galo,” was arrested in Pasig City on Monday, October 6. He faces charges of robbery and violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.
QCPD acting director Col. Randy Glenn Silvio said the incident happened around 12:16 a.m. last Saturday when the suspect posed as a customer at a money changer along Tomas Morato Ave. in Brgy. South Triangle.
After inquiring about exchange rates, Galo reportedly drew an airsoft pistol, pointed it at the teller, and took P500,000 in cash before fleeing aboard a Toyota Corolla sedan.
Through a follow-up operation, police tracked down the suspect in Pasig and recovered P400,000 of the stolen amount. The suspect allegedly admitted that he had already spent P100,000 of the cash.
