Ospital ng Maynila ER at full capacity amid leptospirosis surge

THE Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center (OSMA) has declared its emergency room fully occupied and temporarily unable to admit new patients, hospital officials announced Thursday.

In a public advisory, OSMA urged the public to seek treatment at nearby government hospitals due to the overwhelming influx of patients, many suffering from leptospirosis.

“Due to the high volume of patients, our emergency room has reached full capacity and cannot accommodate additional cases at the moment. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding,” the hospital said.

Dr. Grace Padilla, officer in charge of OSMA, attributed the surge to a rising number of leptospirosis cases brought on by recent flooding.

As of this writing, there are 34 patients in the hospital’s emergency room, even though it is only designed to accommodate 20.

Based on the hospital’s latest data, a total of 66 leptospirosis cases have been recorded. Of these, 11 are new admissions, 27 have been discharged, and seven have died.
