TINAWAG ni Albay Rep. Joey Salceda na “cruel” at “inhumane” ang nakatakdang pag-phaseout ng mga jeepney sa Hunyo 30, 2023 matapos namang magtakda ng ultimatum ang Land Transportation, Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) para ma-modernize ang mga pampublikong transportasyon.
“Totally, I oppose it without government providing concrete assistance to help PUJs cooperativize or to provide ample seed funding for their cooperatives. Even the end-2023 extension is not enough,” sabi ni Salceda.
Idinagdag ni Salceda na aabot sa 50,000 PUJs ang apektado ng ipinalabas na direktiba ng LTFRB na hanggang katapusan na lamang ng Hunyo papayagang makapasada ang mga jeepney.
“I think the policy is especially cruel and inhumane when there are no longer any PUJ subsidies in the budget. Cruel and inhumane when you consider that jeepney drivers were among the hardest-hit sectors over the past three years,” dagdag ni Salceda.
Aniya, apektado rin ng kakulangan ng transportasyon ang mga pasahero sa Metro Manila na aabot sa pagitan ng 800,000 at 1.2 milyon.
