PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced on Wednesday that the government has cancelled the passport of former Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co, who is under investigation for alleged involvement in anomalous flood control projects.
In a video message, Marcos said he has directed the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Philippine National Police to work with embassies abroad to ensure Co cannot evade legal proceedings and to report any attempt to travel so authorities can facilitate his return to the Philippines.
Marcos also noted the surrender of contractor Cezarah Rowena “Sarah” Discaya to the National Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday, calling it a positive development in the ongoing probe.
He said the investigation and case buildup will continue to ensure all those involved in the alleged scheme are held accountable and that stolen public funds are recovered.
On Dec. 5, Marcos earlier announced that the Office of the Ombudsman had recommended filing malversation through falsification charges and violations of Section 3(e) of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act against Discaya and others linked to the ghost flood control project in Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental.
