THE camp of Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa on Saturday said it has yet to receive official confirmation that the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued a warrant of arrest against the former Philippine National Police chief.
“We have been made aware of circulating reports claiming that the ICC has issued an arrest warrant against Senator Ronald ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa,” the senator’s legal counsel, Atty. Israelito Torreon, said in a statement. “At this point, we do not have independent confirmation as to whether this information is accurate.”
Torreon urged the public and media to “exercise caution and restraint” until verified information is released by the ICC or relevant government agencies.
“If proven true, we trust that any action will pass through the proper local judicial confirmation process, consistent with the Constitution, due process, and the sovereign rights of the Republic of the Philippines,” he added.
Torreon said the senator’s camp will await official confirmation before issuing further statements.
Dela Rosa headed the PNP when Duterte launched “Oplan Tokhang” and “Oplan Double Barrel,” operations linked to thousands of drug-related killings.
Government records placed the death toll at around 6,200, though human rights groups estimate the figure could be as high as 30,000.
