VICE President Sara Duterte has pledged to assist the Filipino workers who were arrested in Qatar last week for staging a political demonstration.
Duterte announced that the Office of the Vice President (OVP) will coordinate with other agencies to determine the type of assistance that can be provided to the arrested Filipinos.
Meanwhile, Malacañang assured that the Philippine government will not abandon the detained Filipinos and will provide the necessary support.
Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega clarified that 20 Filipinos were arrested for participating in the political demonstration in Qatar, not 17, as previously reported.
Among the detained, five are women, while the remaining 12 are men. Three children who were also jailed have been released, though their parents remain in custody, according to the Department of Migrant Workers.
