VICE President Sara Duterte has no words yet about the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) decision, denying the interim release requested by her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte.
During her visit to Mati City, Davao Oriental on Saturday, the Vice President said she preferred to focus first on expressing sympathy and solidarity with the victims of the twin quakes that rocked the province on Friday.
“I’ll hold my comment on the ICC case for now. We need to empathize with those affected by the earthquake and sympathize with the families of those who died. I’ll respond to questions about the ICC and other issues later,” she said.
Duterte also declined to comment on her father’s current condition.
“Let’s prioritize the victims of the calamity first. I’ll give my comments in the coming days,” she added.
The ICC Pre-Trial Chamber I on Friday ruled that the former president will remain in detention. He has been held at the ICC Detention Center since March 11 in connection with charges of crimes against humanity linked to his administration’s war on drugs.
