VP Duterte camp on plunder, graft raps: Recycled, rehashed

THE complaints filed against Vice President Sara Duterte and 15 others over the alleged misuse of P612.5 million in confidential funds are nothing more than a recycled attempt to damage her politically, Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) spokesperson, lawyer Ferdinand Topacio said on Friday.

In a statement, Topacio said the accusations simply repeat claims that have already been disproven, noting that the Commission on Audit (COA) recently gave the Office of the Vice President its highest rating.

He also expressed concern over what he described as the Ombudsman’s bias in favor of the administration, saying the office could be used to pursue politically motivated actions.

Topacio added that if the goal were truly to curb misuse of public funds, attention should instead be directed at alleged irregularities linked to budget insertions in the House of Representatives.

He claimed the filing of the complaint reflects growing anxiety within the administration as Duterte’s potential 2028 presidential run becomes more likely, urging the public to remain vigilant against actions that could undermine due process.
