PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. urged Filipinos to honor Dr. Jose Rizal’s enduring legacy by embracing his ideals of patriotism, truth, and social justice as the country marked the 128th anniversary of the national hero’s martyrdom on Monday.
In his Rizal Day message, Marcos highlighted Rizal’s vision of a just and forward-thinking society, emphasizing that his values remain vital to the nation’s progress.
“As we remember his noble works and honorable life, let us take to heart his words and ideals that awakened the consciousness of our forebears and stirred a national movement for freedom,” he said.
The President called on Filipinos to embody Rizal’s virtues in their daily lives, saying, “I call on my fellow Filipinos to look back in pride and embody all the things he cherished—love of country, dedication to the truth, and commitment to the betterment of our people.”
Marcos stressed the importance of individual action in driving societal change, encouraging Filipinos to be “bold enough to be catalysts of change” and contribute to building a better nation.
The President, along with the First Family, led the wreath-laying ceremony at the Rizal National Monument in Manila, while similar rites were held nationwide.
Activities organized by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines included educational exhibits, cultural shows, and community programs to honor Rizal’s life and teachings.
Marcos’ message resonated across sectors, with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police reaffirming their dedication to Rizal’s ideals.
The AFP vowed to draw inspiration from Rizal’s courage and patriotism, while the PNP pledged to uphold public safety and security in pursuit of a peaceful and progressive Philippines.
