PINATITIYAK ni Senador Grace Poe sa Department of Migrant Workers ang kaligtasan ng mga overseas Filipino workers na posibleng maipit sa lumalalang tensyon sa Middle East.
Ayon kay Poe, dapat na unahin ng pamahalaan na matiyak ang kaligtasan ng mga manggagawang Pinoy na nasa Israel at Iran, dahilan para paigtingin ang monitoring, precaution at pag-isyu ng travel advisory kung patuloy ang paggigirian ng dalawang bansa at mauwi sa malawakang tensyon sa rehiyon.
“The safety of Filipinos in Israel and Iran should be the primordial concern amid the escalating conflict between the two countries. We call on our embassy officers in the two countries to monitor their situation, and ensure utmost precautions about their safety and if necessary, encourage them to restrict their movements to the minimum,” pahayag ni Poe sa isang kalatas.
Nanawagan din si Senador Francis Tolentino na gawan agad ng aksyon ng gobyerno ang pangangailangan ng mga OFWs na maiipit sa gulo.
“I would say that at present, the immediate action needed is to determine the number of overseas Filipinos per country in the Middle East, assess the danger where they are now, and determine appropriate action based on their proximity to the place of conflicts,” ayon kay Tolentino.
Tinatayang nasa 2.2 milyong Pinoy ang nagtatrabaho at naninirahan sa Middle East, karamihan sa mga ito ay nasa Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait at Qatar.
