Sila na naman: Plunder complaints filed against Estrada, Revilla over flood control scam

THE Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed on Thursday that Senator Jinggoy Estrada and former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. are facing plunder complaints in connection with alleged irregularities in government flood control projects.

“These are three high-profile personalities that the public may be interested in: [former] Senator Bong Revilla, Elizaldy Co, and Senator Jinggoy Estrada. There are three separate plunder cases against each of the respondents, respectively,” DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez said.

Under the Anti-Plunder Act (RA 7080), plunder is committed by a public official who amasses at least PHP75 million in ill-gotten wealth through acts such as misusing public funds, accepting kickbacks, or exploiting their position.

The DOJ has already initiated a preliminary investigation into the first plunder case, which also includes alleged violations of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act (RA 3019) and the Code of Conduct for Public Officials (RA 6713).

Revilla has submitted a counter-affidavit denying allegations of receiving P125 million in December 2024 and another P250 million before the 2025 elections, calling the claims inconsistent and based on a tabular list prepared by a former DPWH official, not by him.

Estrada likewise maintains that the accusations are baseless. His lawyer, Bianca Soriano, said he continues to perform his duties with integrity and impartiality.
