Romualdez: Arrest of 2 suspects in House official’s murder step toward justice

SPEAKER Martin Romualdez on Wednesday said the arrest of two suspects in the killing of House Committee on Ways and Means Director Mauricio “Morie” Pulhin marks a step forward, but cautioned that justice is far from served.

Pulhin, 63, was gunned down during his daughter’s birthday party in Quezon City on June 15—a brazen crime that stunned the House of Representatives and the public.

The suspects, allegedly acting as a middleman and lookout, were apprehended in Caloocan and Quezon City.

Police claim they were hired by a couple previously employed by Pulhin, who reportedly planned the murder over a personal grudge.

The middleman, identified only as “Balong,” told authorities that Pulhin was preparing to file theft and estafa charges against the masterminds.

Pulhin was shot at close range by two assailants who escaped on a motorcycle.

He was rushed to a hospital but died shortly after.

Romualdez called the killing a “betrayal of decency” and vowed to hold everyone involved accountable—from gunmen to those who ordered the hit.

He urged authorities to find the four suspects still at large and promised full House support for Pulhin’s grieving family.
