Robin ‘grieves’ over denial of Duterte’s release appeal

SEN. Robin Padilla expressed deep sorrow after the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) Appeals Chamber denied former President Rodrigo Duterte’s appeal for interim release.

In a Facebook post on Nov. 28, Padilla uploaded a plain black background bearing the words “Ang kalungkutan,” reflecting his dismay over Duterte’s continued detention at the ICC facility in The Hague.

Supporters of the former president echoed similar sentiments in the comments section, leaving messages such as “The ball is round. Wait for our turn,” and “Wait for the revenge babawi tayo stay strong Tatay D.”

Presiding Judge Luz del Carmen Ibañez Carranza led the reading of the decision, in which the chamber rejected the three grounds of appeal filed by Duterte’s camp.

It affirmed the Pre-Trial Chamber I’s ruling in September that releasing Duterte could endanger witnesses, compromise evidence, and undermine the integrity of the investigation.
