FIFTEEN-year-old Jayboy Magdadaro of Liloan, Cebu, hailed for rescuing over 50 people during the floods brought by Typhoon Tino, continues to receive rewards and recognition for his bravery.
In a Facebook post, philanthropist Kim Burden Gothong said she met Jayboy and turned over donations and gifts from various groups and individuals who were moved by his story.
Among the donations were a new phone, clothes, shoes, groceries, and even a pledge of scholarships from Gothong Southern Foundation, Kumon Liloan, and San Antonio de Padua College. A parent from Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu also offered to cover Jayboy’s tuition and allowance if he chooses to study there.
Gothong thanked donors, including PBA star June Mar Fajardo, who sent a team shirt and cap, and several individuals who contributed items and cash. “These and a lot more are coming for Jayboy: a brand new bike, free medical services, and more,” she wrote.
Jayboy, who lost his phone during the flood, had been using a friend’s device to communicate.
Gothong said she advised him to share some of the cash donations with his parents and older siblings.
“Please pray for him — for his safety, his well-being, and that he continues to be a good person,” she added. “He truly deserves national recognition, perhaps even the Order of Lakandula for exceptional bravery.”
