NEWLY sworn Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla on Thursday vowed to act swiftly on major corruption cases, including the flood control project scandal and the Pharmally controversy, after formally taking his oath before Acting Chief Justice Marvic Leonen at the Supreme Court.
Remulla said President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has instructed him to “iron out the mess” in government, describing his new role as a legal—not political—mandate.
“This is for the people. Whatever your political leanings are, let’s all work for the country,” he said.
He revealed that the Office of the Ombudsman is finalizing evidence in the flood control corruption probe, with cases possibly to be filed “within the next few weeks.”
He emphasized that the investigation will “spare no one,” focusing on solid evidence rather than political considerations.
Remulla also said he would revisit the Pharmally case, which he noted has been “buried in oblivion” and should not be forgotten.
Beyond prosecution, he plans to recommend reforms to strengthen accountability and improve regulatory coordination—particularly urging telecom firms to enhance systems that can help law enforcement combat online child exploitation.
