Ramon Ang: NAIA Terminal 5 to be completed in 30 months

SAN Miguel Corporation president Ramon S. Ang said the construction of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 5 can be completed within 30 months once work begins in early 2026.

“Sabihin mong let’s start construction by January 2026, matatapos ‘yan after 30 months or 2 and a half years. Ang bilis, ano?” Ang told reporters in a chance interview on Tuesday.

The terminal will be built on the site of the old Philippine Village Hotel, which is currently being demolished. The New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation (NNIC), which Ang chairs, expects the site to be cleared by September.

The new terminal is intended to handle domestic flights and help decongest Terminal 2. Ang said Terminals 2 and 5 combined can accommodate up to 35 million passengers annually.

Terminal 1 will be designated for low-cost international carriers, while Terminal 3 will serve full-service international airlines, he added.

The ₱122.3-billion public-private partnership for NAIA’s rehabilitation is the largest such project in Philippine history, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said during a recent inspection of Terminal 3.

“This is the biggest PPP that the country has ever done, and by the way, it was the fastest that we were able to do because I pushed it very, very hard,” Marcos said.

The President praised NNIC’s improvements to the facility and said more upgrades are planned, including face-recognition e-gates to address long immigration lines.

“We are trying to canvass the best technology that we can find para pagaangin ang buhay nila,” he said.
