SAN Miguel Corp. president and CEO Ramon S. Ang’s public offer to address Metro Manila’s flooding woes at no cost to the government has earned him an outpouring of praise online, with some netizens even suggesting he should run for president.
Ang made the announcement in a joint press conference with Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, saying he was willing to shoulder the relocation of residents and replacement of structures currently blocking rivers and waterways.
“Ako po, San Miguel, Ramon Ang, nagbo-volunteer ako ngayon. Ako na ang tutulong sa buong Metro Manila ma-solve ang baha, at no cost to the people, at no cost to the government,” Ang said.
On social media, the response was swift and largely positive. “Ramon Ang is a rich man with a compassionate heart. He offers help without being asked,” one Facebook user wrote. Another posted, “If only more businessmen were like him, our country would be in better shape.”
Several netizens called Ang a “true public servant without a position,” while others urged him to run for president in 2028. “Walang kapalit, walang hingi. ‘Yan ang lider,” one commenter said.
Some also contrasted his initiative with what they saw as government inaction.
