PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has approved the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) recommendation to increase cash grants for beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).
The approval was made during a sectoral meeting held at Malacañang on Tuesday, June 11, attended by officials from the DSWD, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), and other relevant agencies.
In a previous meeting in February, the DSWD proposed several reforms to the 4Ps, including an increase in the cash grant amount and extending cash grants to cover the First 1,000 Days (F1KD) of a child’s life. These measures are intended to enhance the purchasing power of 4Ps beneficiaries and provide incentives for better compliance with the program’s conditions, addressing issues of malnutrition and stunting.
During the meeting, President Marcos Jr. approved the DSWD’s recommendations, which include expanding the program to include pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers in the 4Ps.
The chief executive also directed the DSWD and NEDA to finalize the details promptly to implement the increased 4Ps grants as soon as possible. (GP)
