Power bank caused smoke at NAIA — NNIC

THE smoke that briefly disrupted operations at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 on Monday was caused by a power bank, the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) said.

Smoke was first seen coming from Baggage Carousel 3 at around 4:55 p.m. Emergency response teams were immediately deployed. Passengers were guided away from the area as personnel secured the scene and implemented ventilation procedures.

Less than an hour later, authorities identified the cause of the smoke as a power bank that may have fallen on the carousel system.

“The device caused a minor spark, which produced the smoke. There was no open flame, and the carousel remained fully operational after testing,” NNIC said.

Clean-up operations followed and baggage handling resumed without further incident.

NNIC thanked airport teams and partner agencies for their quick response. “The safety and well-being of passengers remain our top priority,” it said.
