POPE Francis was not expected to make any public appearances on Sunday, April 6, the Vatican News reported.
However, as the Mass for the Jubilee of the Sick and Healthcare Workers was concluding, he made a surprise visit to St. Peter’s Square.
Walking through the congregation, the Pope made his way to the altar, where Archbishop Rino Fisichella, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelisation, had just celebrated Mass.
Following the final blessing, Pope Francis greeted the assembled pilgrims with a few brief words.
“Have a good Sunday. Thank you all!” he said.
He then returned to his residence at Casa Santa Marta.
The Pope was seen wearing nasal cannulas to aid his breathing, as he had been since leaving Gemelli Hospital on Sunday, March 23.
