Pokwang urges DepEd to shift to online classes amid quakes: ‘Gawa ba sa titanium mga anak namin?’

COMEDIAN Pokwang appealed to the Department of Education (DepEd) to move classes online following the series of earthquakes that hit various parts of the country.

In an Instagram story, Pokwang questioned why students in private schools were not included in the suspensions implemented after recent tremors.

“So dahil naka-private school mga anak namin, di sila apektado sa maaaring darating pa na lindol? Ano, gawa ba sa titanium mga anak namin? Susme! Bagal magdesisyon nitong mga nasa private! Kaloka kayo!” she wrote.

She also directly tagged DepEd in her post: “@depedphilippines beke nemen po… Petition for online classes due to earthquakes happening in the country! Bilang nanay, labis ang pag-aalala sa mga nangyayari ngayon para sa mga anak.”

DepEd earlier suspended classes on Monday and Tuesday, not due to earthquakes but because of the spread of influenza-like illnesses in schools. The suspension covered only face-to-face classes in Metro Manila.

DepEd also reminded local government units to exercise caution in suspending classes, warning that excessive cancellations could affect students’ learning outcomes.
