SENATOR Grace Poe recently lauded President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for postponing the planned rehabilitation of EDSA, calling the move a sign of “heeding reason.”
She warned that pushing through with the project without proper preparation would have caused chaos and worsened the daily struggles of commuters and motorists.
Poe, a former chair of the Senate committee on public services, urged the government to use the delay to develop a comprehensive and effective traffic management plan.
She recommended phased repairs and 24/7 construction to minimize disruptions and speed up completion.
She also called for broader consultations with stakeholders and affected sectors to generate more ideas on easing traffic while the rehabilitation is underway.
Marcos announced the deferment of the 23.8-kilometer EDSA rehabilitation project in a video message released Sunday by Super Radyo dzBB.
Originally set to begin on June 13 and last until 2027, the project will now undergo a one-month review to consider new technologies that could shorten the timeline and lessen its impact.
Authorities have yet to provide an updated schedule for the project following the president’s decision to postpone its rollout.
