PNP tightens airport, port security amid hunt vs Atong Ang

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) has tightened security at all airports and seaports nationwide to prevent businessman Atong Ang from leaving the country amid an active manhunt.

This follows the issuance of arrest warrants against Ang for kidnapping with homicide and kidnapping with serious illegal detention in connection with the disappearance of several cockfight enthusiasts, or sabungeros.

PNP Acting Chief Police Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said authorities have stepped up coordination with the Bureau of Immigration as part of efforts to track Ang.

Nartatez also urged Ang to surrender, especially as the businessman has publicly maintained his innocence.

“The most logical option for him is to surrender because the PNP is determined to comply with the arrest warrant issued by the court. If he is indeed innocent as he has been claiming, the more that he should be encouraged to surrender to face the accusations against him,” Nartatez said.

The PNP said all exit points have been placed on heightened alert, with tracker teams and intelligence units activated to ensure that Ang does not leave the country.
