PNP reports 28% drop in drowning incidents during Holy Week

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday reported a 28-percent decrease in drowning incidents during this year’s Holy Week compared to 2024.

PNP public information chief Col. Randulf Tuaño said that 31 drowning incidents were recorded this year, down from 43 last year.

Of the 31 cases, 19 involved adults while the rest were minors. A total of 26 fatalities were reported.

Despite the incidents, Tuaño said the observance of Holy Week was generally peaceful, with over 69,000 police officers deployed nationwide to ensure public safety.

“We remain on heightened alert as we anticipate the return of millions of travelers from the provinces starting Sunday,” he added.
