PNP mobilizes over 10K personnel amid Super Typhoon Uwan

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed thousands of personnel and resources nationwide as Super Typhoon Uwan begins to impact several parts of the country, ensuring assistance to affected communities and reinforcing disaster preparedness.

Acting PNP Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement on Sunday that all police units are fully ready to respond to emergencies.

“The PNP has long been preparing for this scenario. Our forces, equipment, and logistics are already in place to respond wherever we are needed,” he said. “We are maintaining a high level of readiness so that no community will be left unattended as Typhoon Uwan moves across the country.”

Nartatez also directed all regional and provincial directors to immediately activate Risk Reduction Management Task Groups at every level.

He stressed the importance of close coordination with local government units, national agencies, and the public to ensure the safety of residents.

He also instructed all units to secure their personnel and families, check the availability of rescue and communication equipment, and assist local governments in preparing evacuation centers.

Field units are tasked to help evacuate residents from coastal, riverside, and landslide-prone areas, and to lead rescue and relief operations once the typhoon makes landfall.

As of 5 a.m., the PNP has deployed 10,750 personnel across key regions, including the National Capital Region, Northern and Central Luzon, Southern Tagalog, Bicol, Visayas, and Mindanao.

An additional 11,482 members of the Reactionary Standby Support Force are on standby, with nearly a thousand vehicles and other equipment prepositioned in critical areas.

For Nartatez, the PNP’s role extends beyond law enforcement.

Personnel are first responders in disasters, helping with evacuations, rescue missions, and relief distribution.

He said their compassion, discipline, and readiness embody the true spirit of public service, especially in times of crisis.

Under his leadership, the PNP remains committed to protecting lives, coordinating with partner agencies, and serving communities with courage and heart, ensuring that every effort is made to face Super Typhoon Uwan with resilience and resolve.
