POLICE officers who fail to meet the required marksmanship standards set by the Philippine National Police (PNP) will have their issued firearms recalled, according to PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III.
In a directive aimed at improving operational readiness and ensuring public safety, Gen. Torre said that all officers, from new recruits to senior officials, must meet the agency’s firearms proficiency requirements or face mandatory re-training.
“Any officer who fails to pass the classification will have their firearms temporarily confiscated until they undergo and complete the necessary retraining,” Torre said.
The measure, Torre added, is intended to reinforce accountability and ensure that all personnel are capable of handling firearms safely and effectively, particularly in the line of duty.
The firearms proficiency tests will be implemented across all ranks and assignments. The program is part of the PNP’s broader effort to standardize field competency, reduce the risk of operational lapses, and prevent firearm misuse.
Torre also clarified that the move is not punitive, but rather a preventive and corrective step to maintain the professionalism of the force.
“This is to ensure that our police officers are fully capable, reliable, and ready for any operation,” he added.
The PNP has not yet disclosed when the full implementation of the requalification directive will begin, but internal memoranda are expected to be issued to regional and provincial offices in the coming days.
