Pinoy travelers denied forex in Oslo over ‘money laundering’ fears

TV host and athlete Gretchen Ho revealed that a family member traveling in Norway was denied foreign exchange service at an Oslo airport counter due to.“corruption and money laundering” in the Philippines.

In a Facebook post, Gretchen said her relative only wanted to exchange $300 into Norwegian kroner but was told to “exchange their money elsewhere.”

“Terrible. What are we going to do about this, Pilipinas?” Gretchen wrote, expressing dismay over the discriminatory treatment. She said the incident made her wonder how Filipinos were being perceived abroad.

The broadcaster said she immediately reported the matter to the Philippine Embassy in Norway, which promised to look into the incident.

Gretchen added that after sharing her post, she received messages from other Filipinos who had experienced similar situations in the city.

“Apparently, it’s not an isolated case,” she said, adding that she has filed a formal report to the ambassador for proper documentation.
