PH cultural icons Nora Aunor, Pilita Corrales, Gloria Romero, Margarita Fores honored

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. paid tribute to four iconic Filipina artists on Sunday, posthumously awarding them the Presidential Medal of Merit for their lasting contributions to Philippine culture.

In a solemn ceremony at Malacañan Palace, Marcos honored National Artist for Film and Broadcast Nora Aunor, music legend Pilita Corrales, film icon Gloria Romero, and internationally acclaimed chef Margarita Fores, calling them “undeniably icons” who gave voice and identity to the Filipino spirit.

“These women shaped our national consciousness through art, music, film, and food,” Marcos said.

“You live on in every artist who dares, in every child who dreams, and in every Filipino proud to share our story with the world.”

The President emphasized that their legacy transcends awards, rooted instead in how they embodied the Filipino soul through their craft.

He also acknowledged the families of the awardees, thanking them for sharing their loved ones with the nation. The Presidential Medal of Merit is one of the highest civilian honors, recognizing individuals whose work has meaningfully enriched Philippine heritage and identity.
