PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday said he is willing to certify as urgent the proposed amendment to the Rice Tariffication Law (RTL) to allow the National Food Authority (NFA) to sell cheap rice.
During an ambush interview in Pasay City, Marcos said that the current issue lies in the continuous rise of rice prices from farmers due to the uncontrolled increase in prices by traders.
He added that this has resulted in an increase in prices in the markets.
The President said if the Rice Tariffication Law and the charter of the National Food Authority (NFA) are amended, the government will have control and influence over the prices of rice, which will lead to a decrease in prices in the markets.
“If there are amendments to the NFA charter and the Rice Tarrification Law, we could find a way to control or influence the pricing palay and the selling of rice,” Marcos said. (GP)
