Palace suspends work, classes in Luzon, Visayas as ‘Uwan’ nears landfall

MALACANANG has ordered the suspension of work in government offices and classes across major regions of Luzon and the Visayas as Super Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong) threatens to make landfall in Aurora with destructive winds and torrential rains.

Under Memorandum Circular No. 106 issued on Sunday, work in government offices is suspended on Monday, Nov. 10, in the National Capital Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Regions I (Ilocos), II (Cagayan Valley), III (Central Luzon), IV-A (Calabarzon), IV-B (Mimaropa), V (Bicol), and VIII (Eastern Visayas).

Meanwhile, classes at all levels in the same regions — along with Regions VI (Western Visayas), VII (Central Visayas), and the Negros Island Region — are suspended on November 10 and 11.

“Agencies responsible for basic, vital, and health services, as well as disaster preparedness and response, must continue to remain operational,” the circular stated.

Malacañang added that other government offices in affected areas may adopt alternate work arrangements to ensure the continuity of essential services.

Local government units outside the covered areas are likewise authorized to declare their own suspensions as needed.

The private sector, the Palace noted, may decide on work arrangements at the discretion of their respective heads.

The directive takes effect immediately, as President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. placed all government agencies on full alert amid forecasts of a potentially catastrophic landfall by Super Typhoon Uwan in Aurora or nearby provinces.
