THE Office of the Ombudsman is building cases against several officials linked to the alleged flood control anomalies, including Senator Francis Escudero and former Senator Nancy Binay.
Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla confirmed the ongoing work after the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) recommended case build-ups involving Escudero, Binay, Senator Mark Villar, and former Senator Grace Poe-Llamanzares due to the seriousness of the accusations.
“We are conducting case build-ups and preliminary work. I cannot discuss details because it may compromise the investigation,” Remulla said in an interview on ANC’s Headstart.
He added that the office continues to receive information daily and is taking a deliberate approach to avoid filing cases prematurely.
For Binay, Remulla said evidence submitted to the Ombudsman is still under evaluation. He also confirmed that materials related to Villar’s term as DPWH secretary and as a senator have been turned over and are being reviewed.
About eight teams are currently handling the cases, with more expected to be formed next year.
Escudero, Binay, Villar, and Poe have all denied any involvement in irregularities related to flood control projects.
