FEWER Filipino families rated themselves poor and hungry during the first three months of the year, according to the recent survey of OCTA Research.
The Tugon ng Masa survey conducted from March 11 to 14, 2024, stated that 42 percent or 11.1 million Filipino families considered themselves poor, a 3 percent lower posted during the last quarter of 2023 or 45 percent or 11.9 million families.
The improved rating was prominent in NCR, whose rates went down from 40 to 29 percent; in Balance Luzon, down from 46 to 28 percent; and in Visayas, from 57 to 47 percent.
The 3 percent decrease represents a continuing downward trend in self-rated poverty observed since July 2023, where self-rated poverty was at 50 percent.
On the other hand, Mindanao had the highest percentage of Filipinos who considered themselves poor at 71 percent. (GP)
