NNIC, Ramon Ang extend help to NAIA Terminal 1 crash victims

NEW NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) president Ramon S. Ang on Sunday vowed full support for the victims and families affected by the fatal vehicular accident at the departure level of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.

Ang said he would personally cover the medical costs of the four individuals injured in the incident and provide financial assistance to the families of the two people who died, including a four-year-old girl, as confirmed by the Philippine Red Cross.

“This is a very tragic incident. Our priority now is to make sure the victims and their families receive the support and care they need,” Ang said in a press statement released to the media.

The crash occurred around 8:50 a.m. when a black sport utility vehicle (SUV) parked near the terminal’s entrance suddenly surged forward, breaking through the outer railing and ramming into bystanders on the walkway.

The vehicle struck multiple people before coming to a halt.

Authorities said the driver is currently in police custody as a thorough probe is being conducted to determine the cause of the sudden acceleration.

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) confirmed that access to the area has been restricted to police, airport security, and NNIC personnel as part of ongoing probe efforts.

NNIC said it is working in close coordination with authorities in the investigation.

Ang and the company also extended their condolences to the bereaved families and expressed hopes for the swift recovery of the injured.
