THE Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday highlighted its drive to fast-track career advancement in public schools as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. witnessed the oath-taking of 2,915 newly promoted teachers and school leaders from the National Capital Region.
The ceremony covered promotions to higher ranks, including Teacher III to VII, Master Teacher II to V, and Principal II to IV, following reforms aimed at clearing long-standing promotion backlogs.
Marcos said the advancement of educators reflects the government’s recognition of their crucial role in shaping the nation, noting that teaching carries responsibilities that extend beyond the classroom.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara administered the oath, saying the administration is prioritizing teachers through concrete reforms that ensure dignity, growth, and long-term career prospects.
Makati Mayor Nancy Binay and other officials also attended.
DepEd said 2,186 educators were promoted through natural vacancies, while 729 advanced through reclassification under the Expanded Career Progression framework, allowing merit-based promotion beyond plantilla limits.
The initiative is anchored on the Career Progression for Public School Teachers and School Leaders Act of 2025, which institutionalizes a structured, competency-based system nationwide.
